OAK supported First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move initiative to end childhood obesity in America. The Alliance was instrumental in establishing the Let’s Move! Outside arm of the initiative to encourage participation in the outdoors as an important means to increase physical activity among children, youth and families.

LMOwhitehousesalazar — OAK participated in the first Let’s Move! Outside event on the White House lawn where we engaged 75 high school students in nature-based physical activity.

Let’s Move! Outside 50 cities
To help advance First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! Outside initiative, OAK Steering Committee Member YMCA’s local chapters joined with community partners in 50 city-wide summits to facilitate engagement with public land management agencies and other community organizations. The summits worked to increase coordination, collaboration and communication among service providers, and develop strategies to increase awareness of and participation in outdoor programs for youth. OAK supported these events by engaging members and partners in each city to get involved.
