The Outdoors Alliance for Kids and Scholastic have partnered to give kids the opportunity to lift their voices and do their best persuasive writing about why the outdoors matter. We know kids care about the outdoors and we want them to have a forum for sharing their views, all the while competing for terrific prizes.
From March 18th – April 19th, 2019, the All Kids Outdoors Contest provides teachers, youth program leaders and parents with free tools to help them help kids prepare to do their best persuasive writing and submit their contest entry. A sample lesson plan and activity primes the creativity pump for 4th – 6th graders, and the cool prizes are the extra incentive for kids to speak (write and draw) their minds.
The resources can be found free on line at http://www.scholastic.com/outdoorsallianceforkids. Any adult can help a student flex their writing (and drawing) muscles and submit their original essay and accompanying illustration. Prizes are awarded to a Grand Prize Winner, Two Honorable Mentions, and one randomly selected Sweepstakes Winner. The Grand Prize includes a free family trip to Olympic National Park, and more. Other prizes for both the students and the submitting adult include credits to buy anything from the Scholastic.com store.
